What is Reiki?Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is an ancient healing art over 2,500 years old, which was rediscovered in Japan in the nineteenth century. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Force Energy," the ocean of energy that is all around us. Healing energy is channeled through the practitioner's hands and the patient is healed not by the Reiki practitioner, but by the Universal Life Force Energy flowing into him or her through the practitioner, who has been "attuned" to such channeling under the guidance of a Reiki Master. Reiki relieves pain and acute problems quite effectively and is particularly useful in bringing deep relaxation to the patient. Chronic illnesses may require a number of treatments, depending on the nature of the disease. Any sickness which manifests physically is a symptom of disorder on the emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Reiki restores balance and harmony in all these areas, giving a sense of wholeness and well-being. Reiki opens a closed energy center of the aura arid emotional body.

What can I expect in a reiki session? In a Reiki session, you can expect a soothing and relaxing experience focused on promoting healing and balance within your body, mind, and spirit. Reiki is typically conducted in a calm and tranquil setting, where the practitioner and recipient work together to facilitate the flow of healing energy. Here's what you can generally expect during a Reiki session: Pre-Session Discussion: The Reiki practitioner will often start the session with a brief discussion to understand your specific needs, concerns, and any health issues you might have. This conversation helps the practitioner tailor the session to address your individual requirements. Comfortable Environment: The session will take place in a quiet and comfortable environment, either on a massage table or a chair. You may be asked to remove your shoes and any restrictive clothing to enhance relaxation. Fully Clothed: Unlike massage therapy, Reiki is a non-invasive practice, and you remain fully clothed throughout the session. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended to ensure ease of movement and energy flow. Hands-On Healing: The Reiki practitioner will use a series of hand positions on or above specific areas of your body, such as the head, shoulders, abdomen, and limbs. These hand positions are designed to channel the healing energy into your body. The practitioner's touch is usually light, gentle, and non-intrusive. Sensations: During the session, you may experience various sensations, such as warmth, tingling, or subtle pulsations where the practitioner's hands are placed. These sensations are normal and are often an indication of energy flow and rebalancing. Deep Relaxation: As the Reiki energy flows through your body, you will likely enter a state of deep relaxation. Many people find this experience highly calming and may even fall asleep during the session. Emotional Release: Reiki can sometimes trigger emotional release as it helps to release emotional blockages and promote emotional healing. It is not uncommon to feel a sense of relief or even shed tears during a session. Session Length: A standard Reiki session usually lasts between 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the practitioner and your specific needs. Post-Session Discussion: After the session, the practitioner may discuss your experience and any insights they gained during the session. They may offer suggestions for self-care or further sessions if needed. Follow-Up: Some individuals may experience immediate effects after a single session, while others might need multiple sessions to notice significant changes. The number of sessions required varies depending on your condition and personal goals. It's important to remember that Reiki is a complementary therapy and not a replacement for conventional medical treatment. If you have any medical concerns or health conditions, it's essential to consult with a qualified healthcare professional alongside your Reiki practice. Additionally, each Reiki practitioner may have their unique style and approach, so the overall experience may vary slightly between different practitioners.
